Living with someone, whether the relationship is new or not has many benefits when it comes to spending, saving and financial planning.
If both partners are earning then the financial burden of bills, the mortgage/rent and general expenditures for starters, can be shared. It can free up some disposable income or make saving for that bigger property, car or holiday that little bit easier. However, this then means that as a couple reliant on each other, there are other risks that need to be considered.
If you share a home, assets and have joint dependencies and commitments, make sure you have adequate protection in place if something should happen to one of you. Could you afford your current standard of living and bills if one of you suddenly took ill and could not work and one income stream was lost?
HAVE YOU THOUGHT ABOUT THIS?
Unless prompted, we find that this is a conversation that rarely happens in people’s busy lives. What does that look like for you both and do you have a plan in place to make sure your goals and aspirations become a reality? We can help you create a fluid plan and strategy to help you both on your journey to Financial Wellbeing and security.
Mortgage
Are you looking to obtain a mortgage for your first property together? Perhaps you both have your own properties and would like to explore renting one or both of them in order to create alternative income streams. Perhaps you are looking to make the next step on the property ladder and upsize?
Your home or other property may be repossessed if you do not keep up repayments on your mortgage.
Some buy to let mortgages are not regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority.
